Alanna Kennedy has confirmed her departure from Manchester City
Manchester City defender Alanna Kennedy has announced that she will leave the club immediately.
The defender took to social media on Tuesday morning to announce the news City fans: “Manchester has been my home for the last 3 and a half years and I’m leaving with lots of amazing memories.
“I’ve had some career highlights playing for this team and made some lifelong friends. I want to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported me during my time here.”
Kennedy made 64 appearances during her tenure at City, including appearances in the FA Women’s League Cup-winning run during the 2021/22 season.
Fans were suspicious of Kennedy’s departure after the defender was left out of the game The City team that lost 4-2 to Manchester Unitedas the Women’s Super League (WSL) returned after the winter break last weekend.
Confirming the news, Kennedy wished her teammates the best as they prepare to enter the business end of the season. “Last but certainly not least, I want to thank my teammates,” she wrote. “It was a privilege to play alongside you all and I wish you all continued success for the rest of the season and beyond.”
The departure will raise significant concerns for City fans with captain Alex Greenwood currently facing an extended spell on the sidelines after damaging her MCL before Christmas. Gareth Taylor will bank on the January signing of defender Rebecca Knaak from FC Rosengard to bolster his backline ahead of a busy run of fixtures.
