Officials say the fire broke out overnight in a hotel restaurant at a ski resort in Bol province.
At least 10 people have died in a fire at a hotel in a ski resort in northwestern Turkey, officials said.
The fire broke out overnight in a hotel restaurant in the resort town of Kartalkaya in Bol province, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said. Another 32 people were hospitalized with injuries, he added.
“Two hundred and sixty-seven employees from various public institutions and organizations responded to the fire and intervention is underway,” he wrote on X.
Speaking to Turkey’s TRT news agency, Bolu Governor Abdulaziz Aydin said the fire started on the fourth floor of the 11-story hotel around 3:30 a.m. (00:30 GMT). A few hours later, firefighters were still working to extinguish the fire.
The authorities will investigate the cause of the fire, he added, pointing out that the fire broke out on the restaurant’s floor.
Two victims died after jumping out of the building in panic, Aydin told the state-run Anadolu news agency. 234 guests stayed in the hotel, he said.
Television images showed the roof and upper floors of the hotel in flames.
Kartalkaya is one of Turkey’s main winter tourism destinations, attracting thousands of visitors during the ski season. The resort is located about 295 kilometers (183 miles) east of Istanbul.
