3/10 Man Utd dud just proved why INEOS must spend
Manchester United requested only their fourth Premier League victory of Reuben Amorim era last night, beating Marco Silva’s Fulham 1-0 at Craven Cottage.
It was by no means a pretty match, but Lisandro MartínezHis deflected effort secured all three points for the Red Devils, moving them up to 12th in the table.
However, with the club’s current dire situation on the pitch, it’s not about how attractive the performances are, but ultimately getting points on the board to reverse the recent slump.
Although the display was not the best since the 39-year-old’s appointment, he must be pleased that his side managed to walk away with all three points despite not being at their best.
Additionally, a number of players failed to impress in West London, producing displays that could see them replaced before the end of the window.
Poor performance by Man United against Fulham
Despite recent transfer rumors surrounding his future at the club, Alejandro Garnacho started the clash in the capital but was unable to show why the club demanding £55m for his services.
The Argentine played 81 minutes before being substituted, but his performance justified his withdrawal, losing possession 13 times during his time on the field.
He also completed just one of three dribble attempts, failing to register a single effort in goal – looking toothless inside the final third for the Red Devils.
Noussair Mazraoui has featured frequently as a wide centre-back for United since Amor’s arrival, but was selected to operate in a left-back role against Fulham – a position in which he has struggled.
The Moroccan was also wasteful with the ball, losing possession 12 timesbut he lacked his usual defensive presence, completing just one tackle and failing to make an interception.
However, both mentioned players were better than one teammate, who once again ensured an evening to forget despite the coach’s continued confidence in him.
Man United player who lost 3/10 against Fulham
Attacker Rasmus Hojlund he was a player with low confidence and clearly struggled in recent weeks, but Amorim continued to stand by his back nine to produce some good.
However, the Denmark international has been unable to produce, failing to score in any of his last 11 appearances in all competitions, registering just two goals in 18 league games.
Yesterday was another goalless result for the 21-year-old, arguably a lot of pressure on his shoulders in relation to his usual starting role – with his all-round play as alarming as his lack of tangible contribution.
Hojlund was on the pitch for just 58 minutes before being replaced by Joshua Zirkzee, a substitution that simply had to be made after the Dane couldn’t hold the ball up top.
He just finished it six of his pass attempts during his display, recording a measly 21 touches, with goalkeeper Andre Onana managing to more than double that with his 47 touches.

The striker was also guilty of wasting possession on the rare occasions when the ball fell into his path, also conceding 12 times losing 82% of the duels he entered – leading to content creator Jon Denton calling it United’s “the worst player” and gets a rating of 3/10 by Manchester Evening News reporter Samuel Luckhurst.
Hojlund was also, like Garnacho, unable to register any efforts on goal, highlighting the desperate need for investment by INEOS before the end of the current transfer window.
Amorim’s current two tall forwards, Hojlund and Zirkzee, have only scored together five first league goals during 2024/25, and their fortunes only change with new additions.
Viktor Gyokeres, Christopher Nkunku, Matheus Cunha and Jonathan David have everyone praised the move at Old Trafford in recent weeks, with all options providing a massive upgrade on the current range of options – all of them scored more points so far this campaign.
With just over a week to go, time is ticking for the hierarchy to provide Amorim with the ammunition he needs to succeed and build on his latest win, and last night’s display at Craven Cottage added proof that the current options are simply not up to scratch.
