Player Ratings as Salah stars in stunning win
West Ham United suffered a 5-0 defeat at home to runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
Only 12 places separate the two clubs in Premier League table but on the vast turf at the London Stadium, a great chasm in quality yawned.
Liverpool started fast and hardly slowed down after that. Mohamed Salah he had the first chance of the game within six minutes, but it was denied by Alphonse Areola. Curtis Jones and Luis Diaz were also denied by the overworked Frenchman before Liverpool’s Colombian starlet broke the deadlock on the hour mark.
Diaz was first to his own loose pass – a sign of the feverish hunger pouring out of Arne Slot’s table tops – and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
Salah had his way with the whole thing West Ham backline during another powerful outing. Liverpool’s talisman beat both Konstantinos Mavropanos and Max Kilman as he pushed the ball onto Cody Gakpo’s 40th-minute drive. The Hammers had no time to escape down the London Stadium tunnel before Salah found the net himself.
Trent Alexander-Arnold took care of that Liverpool they picked up where they left off, hitting a deflected fourth for the visitors in the first ten minutes of resumption.
West Ham were in a second half that Liverpool largely used as a warm-up exercise ahead of Manchester United’s visit next week. But the hosts could not reduce the deficit and Diogo Jota extended the gap to five goals in the 84th minute, giving Liverpool their second 5-0 win against West Ham this season.
