Manchester City’s quest to end their miserable run of form continues after a 1-1 draw with Everton on Boxing Day left them with just one win in their last 13 games in all competitions.
City got off to a great start and deservedly took the lead through Bernardo Silva in the 14th minute, and the Portugal international collected a clever pass from Jeremy Doku and tapped the ball into the net thanks to Jarrad Branthwaite’s deflection.
Silva should have had a second chance and City’s sloppiness was punished in the first half when Iliman Ndiaye sent an instinctive volley – Everton’s first touch in the City penalty area – whizzing into the top corner to equalize at the interval.
Jordan Pickford turned to his trusty water bottle for instructions on how to save Erling Haaland’s penalty shortly after the restart. The striker headed the ball that eventually came to him, only to immediately see the flag in the backfield and extend City’s frustrations.
