Newcastle have set a record price for Alexander Isak
Newcastle United will challenge the clubs to crush the British transfer record if they want to sign forward Alexander Isak, it was announced.
Isak, 25, has shone since his move to Newcastle in 2022 and is enjoying another excellent campaign, scoring 11 goals in 16 appearances, including seven in his last five Premier League appearances.
Such form brought Isak into contact with rivals from the Premier League Arsenal and Chelseawhile Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have all been tipped to try and lure the Sweden international back to continental Europe.
Newcastlefor their part, they have no desire to part with Isaac, and The Telegraph are reported to have set an asking price of over £150m for their superstar striker.
A fee of £150m would obliterate the current British record – Chelsea’s £106m signing of Enzo Fernandez – and make Isak the third most expensive transfer of all time, behind only Kylian Mbappe’s £163m move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2018 and French signing Neymar worth £198m 12 months earlier.
Newcastle feel under no pressure to lower their asking price as Isak still has more than three years left on his current deal and talks over an extension are expected in the coming months.
Crucially, Newcastle are known to be at the mercy of the Premier League’s financial regulations, which forced them to consider bids for winger Anthony Gordon last summer before potentially selling Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson.
A significant bid for Isak may not be rejected outright, but Newcastle have plenty of other players they would like to sell before entertaining offers for Isak, while there is also hope that their recent revival will lead to a return to European football and the fortunes that come with it.
