Man Utd contact Victor Osimhen as a potential replacement for Marcus Rashford
Manchester United are in contact with representatives of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen as they look for potential replacements for Marcus Rashford, a report claims.
Rashford is under fire after publicly admitting his desire for a “new challenge” following new head coach Ruben Amorim’s decision to drop him from United’s Manchester derby squad. He has since been left out of two more matchday squads.
The central theme surrounding Rashford is the fact that he earns more than £300,000 a week – reports suggest somewhere between £315,000 and £365,000 – with United have to discharge that salary before spending on a replacement.
According to Sky Sports SwitzerlandUnited officials are positioning Osimhen as a potential replacement and are already in contact with the striker’s entourage.
Osimhen joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli in the summer after a late move to Chelsea dropped, but it is believed the Serie A side will have the option to recall him in January if they receive a permanent offer.
Napoli will demand a fee of around €75m (£62.2m) to sell Osimhen, who has 18 months left on his contract and has already been told his time at the club is up.
Such a fee is expected to be prohibitive for United without significant sales, which is where Rashford enters the fray. United value the 27-year-old at around £40m and could use that fee for any deal for Osimhen.
