“I don’t need PR…”: MS Dhoni explains his stance on social media and focus on cricket
In an age where social media dominates almost every aspect of public and private life, the legendary Indian cricketer MS Dhoni stands apart.
Known for his calm demeanor and straightforward approach, Dhoni has never been one to dabble too much on social media platforms. His recent comments during the latest episode of Tread Talks by Eurogrip Tires shed light on his penchant for staying out of the digital limelight, despite his unparalleled popularity.
Looking back on his cricketing journey since his debut in 2004, Dhoni shared how his managers often encouraged him to use social media for PR purposes. However, the former Indian captain, who led the Men in Blue to victories in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup, believes he should let his performance speak for itself.
“I’ve never been a big fan of social media,” Dhoni said. “During my career I had different managers. I started playing in 2004, and Twitter (now X) became popular a little later, followed by Instagram. All managers would suggest some PR activities, building this or that. But my answer has always been the same: if I play good cricket, I don’t need a PR.”
Dhoni’s perspective reflects his deep-seated belief in focusing on his craft rather than seeking attention through digital platforms. His minimal presence on social media stands in stark contrast to the trends followed by most modern athletes, who often use these platforms to communicate with fans, promote brands and share snapshots of their personal lives.
