The dismissal occurred in the 5th over of the Adelaide Strikers’ innings at Adelaide Oval. Jason Behrendorff threw the ball into the back of Jake Weatherald, who tried to kick it over the middle of the field. However, Tye had other plans after positioning himself perfectly in midfield.
In an incredible display of athleticism and reflexes, Andrew Tye made an incredible dive in the middle of the attack, extending his right arm to grab the ball out of the air. Tye landed safely with the ball in hand, holding onto the ball to complete the spectacular catch and ensure Weatherald’s exit.
Jake Weatherald’s aggressive batting effort resulted in his dismissal for 8 runs off 8 balls, with one boundary. However, it was Andrew Tye’s incredible efforts that stole the show in the first innings of the BBL 2024-25 clash despite being an expensive bowler for the Perth Scorchers.

The Australian pacer conceded 46 runs in his four overs and claimed just one wicket, but Jhye Richardson’s three wickets and joint efforts from Jason Behrendorff (2/14) and Lance Morris (2/19) helped the Scorchers restrict the Strikers to 142/8 at Adelaide Oval.
Highlights of the match between Adelaide Strikers and Perth Scorchers
The Adelaide Strikers faced a tough start, 58 for 8 at home. However, a resilient ninth wicket partnership of 84* runs between Cameron John Boyce (29* off 22 balls) and Brendan Doggett (47* off 39 balls) helped them reach a competitive total of 142/8 in 20 overs.
Perth’s chase got off to a bad start, losing Matty Hurst and Aaron Hardie early, Henry Thornton dismissed them both for 2 runs. However, Finn Allen and Josh Connolly livened up the innings with aggressive shots. Connolly’s unbeaten 48 off 35 balls kept the chase on track.

Allen and Connolly shared an 84 partnership and after Allen’s dismissal for 50, Connolly continued with Ashton Turnerwho scored 35 off 18 balls. The pair added 57 runs to help Perth chase the target in just 15 overs, defeating the Adelaide Strikers by seven wickets in the BBL 2024-25 clash. It was the third loss for the Strikers in the 2024-25 BBL.
After winning the man of the match award, Cooper Connolly said: “They came back nicely. We were happy at the halfway point. It was nice to get some runs. We were hoping Allen would get the runs. It’s nice to contribute that’s how the team play . It looks a little awkward early on. We’ll be at home for a few games.”
